Onboard
During the onboarding process, brands determine the correct Authentication Tags to affix to their products, assign Connected IDs to their products, and design the Connected Profiles to optimize end-user engagement and conversions post purchase.
Authentication Tags
With our platform, the link between a physical good, its Connected ID, and its Connected Profile is the un-hackable Authentication Tag. That said, it is critical to get the correct tag for each physical good. Tags come in varying shapes, sizes, makes, and models; furthermore, certain physical goods require certain tag specifications to work seamlessly. In beginning the Collection Builder workflow, brands are prompted to provide information on the physical good, so we can determine the optimal tag to use. Our platform supports a range of tag types, including:
- Hard Disc Tags. Hard 'disc' tags are made from PPS plastic. They are extremely durable and can withstand high temperature industrial washing and cleaning processes. These are available as either a 'button' format with holes, so they can be sewn onto items, or as a plain disc, which can be attached with a woven patch or label.
- Adhesive Stickers. The adhesive sticker tag is a standard NFC clear label with etched aluminum antenna sandwiched between two layers of PET plastic, but it maintains flexibility, which means that can be easier to integrate into softer textiles or fabrics. These tags can be manufactured with an iron-on adhesive for direct application to an item of clothing - either with a clear face (so you can see the antenna), a white face or even a printed face. It is most common for this type of tag to be placed behind a woven label.
- On-Metal Tag. This tag is suitable for an on-metal object or location tagging in high use environments where the additional protection over a standard label can be important. Normal NFC tags do not work when placed directly onto metal surfaces. Therefore, when using NFC tags on metal you either need to create a gap of at least 0.5 cm between the tag and the metal or you can use a special tag - called an 'on-metal' tag - which has an additional ferrite barrier material between the NFC tag and the adhesive.
We provide the above tags as an “out of the box” solution; however, we also offer custom tags upon request. Additionally, One of None offers standardized woven patches and labels in square, circle, and rectangle formats to mount any tag on any garment. We also can assist with designing and production of custom labels/patches upon request.
Installation
After determining the optimal tag type, One of None sends pre-encoded tags with instructions on best practices for installation. If needed, we can also work directly with manufacturers to provide guidance on installing the tags onto the desired product. This can be done at a factory level, and the tags can be installed either pre or post-production. At a base level, we recommend that manufacturers mount an external label on top of the chip and sew the label onto the garment.
Connected IDs
In preparing individualized Connected IDs for a new collection, our platform requires certain information to mint tailored blockchain tokens and support authenticity into the future. It is important to get the proper blockchain-based information up front, as these digital assets cannot be altered, and we use this information to populate each product’s Connected Profile. The information we collect includes:
- Blockchain Network. Today, we support a number of EVM-based blockchain networks for deploying Connected IDs. Brands are free to choose their desired network, whether it be the Ethereum, Polygon, Base, etc.
- Digital assets. In order to configure the Connected ID for consumer visibility, our platform asks for the visual content to be associated to each blockchain-based token. Using our Collection Builder, creators upload image files that will be displayed across blockchain-compatible technologies, as the web3 network is stored on a public ledger.
- Contract Customization. In addition to the imagery associated with each token, we allow brands to make customizations to the smart contract and provide certain parameters that govern the product lifecycle. This includes the ability to “freeze” tokens to wallets and prevent resale, as well as enabling smart contracts to support future resale activity if desired.
Wallets
One of blockchain’s largest barriers to entry is the need for crypto wallets to hold, transfer, and transact with digital tokens. Most web2 e-commerce shoppers do not understand nor wish to operate a crypto wallet.
We eliminate this concern and make blockchain adoption seamless with our world-class partner network. Using today’s best encryption practices, our partners help generate and associate each wallet with a user account that only they can access. This enables collectors to make on-chain purchases without ever having to worry about handling a blockchain token.
In the event that end-users are accustomed to the web3 world and already have a preferred web3 wallet, we never require a new wallet to be created and fully support the use of non-custodial wallets, so long as a compatible wallet is available to hold each token (i.e. a different wallet is required to hold an Ethereum-based token vs a Solana-based token).
Connected Profiles
Connected Profiles are webpages that tell the story of each individual Connected Product and open a line of communication between brands and their consumers. With our Authentication Tags, Collectors can easily use their mobile devices to tap their product and view its Connected Profile; furthermore, Connected Profiles do not require collectors to download a third-party app. These profiles are individualized to each product, displaying unique ownership, traits, rewards, etc.
Using the Collection Builder, brands are able to customize their product profiles by changing colors, fonts, and logos for each product profile. They can also add utility blocks to the bottom of the profile.
Each product profile displays a unique lifetime provenance which includes all transaction, vaulting, grading, and social history. Key elements of each product’s timeline are stored as part of its metadata, so future collectors can verify the complete history of any Connected Product. With this information, collectors can make the most informed purchasing decisions.
Utility Blocks
We segment experiences and utility partners in the following categories:
- Storytelling. Tell the product’s story from inception through launch with the ability to upload various media to the product’s timeline.
- Loyalty. Allow collectors to get exclusive access, discounts, etc. associated with their ownership.
- Authentication. Allow collectors the ability to issue a real-time challenge to the Authentication Tag, proving its ownership and promoting resale transactions.
- Resale. Enable products to be compatible with various resale exchanges to increase collector liquidity while taking a royalty on each resale transaction.
- Vaulting. Configure connected products for storage in authorized facilities, remediating risk of depreciation and promoting resale transactions.
- Professional Services. Integrate with a variety of approved service providers, so collectors know who they can trust to handle their most valuable goods.
Launch
On drop day, brands can sell their Connected Products in a variety of formats. We support three primary modes of distributing the NFT to the end-user, according to how the brand sees fit.
- Tap-First. With the Tap First method, end-users can make a standard purchase as they make any physical product purchase. When they tap their product for the first time, they are prompted with the ability to claim their token and verify their product ownership.
- Email Access Code. With Email Access Codes, end-users receive an email associated with their purchase which leads to a similar process as the Tap First model. They will be prompted to claim their token using individualized order information, so they can verify their product ownership.
- Shopify Integration. With our Shopify Integration, end-users can receive their token as part of the purchase process. This remediates the need to follow the claim process associated with the Tap First and Email Access Code model.
Manage
One of the largest benefits we provide is the ability to manage collections, product profiles, and utilities post-launch. This allows brands to continually tailor their messaging and engagement tools to promote end-user engagement well beyond retail. Additionally, brands can configure drops for resale authentication, in order to promote circulation post-drop through verified resale channels, rather than through unaffiliated third-party exchanges.
Profile Updates
Once a collection is live and end-users have purchased products at retail, brands can adjust the overall layout of the Product Profile according to the market’s feedback. For example, if a certain drop is lacking customer engagement, brands are encouraged to provide new promotions and rewards through utility blocks in order to spark engagement and subsequent conversions.
Product Verification
The ability to determine if an item is authentic is the most crucial requirement for managing Connected Products. In addition to our Authentication Tags, we work with brands to implement multiple layers of authenticity in our process, including photography, videography, 3D scans, and custom criteria. To add context, when dealing with apparel, we may stitch a special thread in a hidden location. For collectible figurines, we may use smart dust or invisible ink to mark each product with a unique design.
In creating the list of checkpoints to authenticate items into the future, we enable verified resale, so collectors can now purchase products in the secondary market without fear of transacting a counterfeit good.
